The Shideler Dining Hall was finished in 2008 with Summer Camp 2008 using the Dining Hall for the first year. The picture you see above is the very first flag ceremony held at the Shideler Dining Hall. The Dining Hall was named in honor of (now in memory of) of William F. Shideler, a long time Logansport scouter who spent 50+ years working at Camp Buffalo. It was built due to expanding number of campers and replacing the former dining hall facility which today is the MultiPurpose Building.

Before Shideler Dining Hall where did scouts eat? (scroll down for answer and a pic)
Before the construction of Shideler Dining Hall, the building you now know as Multi-Purpose was the dining hall. In the late 1970’s the roof was badly damaged due to the blizzards of 1977 and 1978 and the building was going to be torn down. Under the direction of Bill Shideler and Ernie Hiatt, two volunteers, the old roof structure was removed off the native oak walls and a new roof was added. This picture is of the dining hall in 1979 AFTER the new roof was put on it. Old Faceful, the drinking fountain had been removed. It was located to the left of the window that you see in the right of the picture. It was called Old Faceful because of the varying water pressure (depending of the kitchen was drawing water), you either had hardly no stream of water or you got a “face full” of water.
